"Hi. This is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series, we are talking about square foot gardening, the whole program designed by Mel Bartholomew to enhance your raised beds and grow wonderful flowers and vegetables using small one foot by one foot sections. So, we've put together our four foot by four foot bed and we are going to be ready to bring it outside and select a location. But before doing that, we want to talk about soil for a minute. Mel Bartholomew recommends using a three way mix of peat moss, vermiculite and compost and that works very well. But, in my garden, I'm going to be using a different mix and I recommend a four way mix using sand, fir compost, grass compost and mushroom compost and it seems to work very well for my garden. So, It really doesn't matter what compost you use as long as it's healthy and good compost and that will be the basis of our square foot garden. Next, we will talk about different factors that are important to your square foot garden, particularly leaving three feet between the beds. "
