Summary: Learn types of router bits to use for a plunge router from a construction expert in this free power tools video.
"Hi! I'm Ed Reyes with Master Builders here in Tampa, Florida and I am here for Expert Village. I am going to show you how to use a proper use for a plunge router. Now there is a variety of bits that will fit this machine. It is going to depend on what type of design you want to make on your wood. We have a small example here. The one that is on this machine is called the Roman Ogie that will give you a design where it is curvature. They go all the way from key hole that you can make indentations for cabinetry to straight shank all the way over to V-groove. If you want to make a design in the wood like an insert for a cabinet door, that would be the bit to use all the way down to flat panels and also, Formica tops. This is a trimming bit that has a router on with a ball bearing roller and that is used when you put Formica on to shave the edges off nice and smooth. So this machine does a variety of different types of work not just woodwork. It also works off of Formica tops, counter tops, coving, different types of angles, rounded angles. It just depends on what kind of design you want to get. If you are doing some kind of repair work or some kind of remodeling work, you can normally match what they have with pretty much what is right here. It is real easy to do. You just pull your bit out and size it. There is a variety of different bits to use; this is just a few of them. But with a little bit of practice, you can be very good at this. "
