"MARK BLOCKER: Hello. I'm Mark Blocker on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, I'm going to give you some tips on painting. We're getting ready to prepare or put on our first coat of base coat, and we're using a latex paint. And with all latex paints, they've been developed a lot lately and there's been a lot of innovations and changes and the painting is much better--the grade of paint is much better than in the past years. But oil paint has always had the properties that allow it to lay down smoother because of a slower drying time and it's oil-based. And latex has never been able to achieve that--the same quality as oil. But they've got some additives and modifiers out now that will slow the drying time down, it reduces friction and brush drag and allows the latex paint to lay down smoother and give us a better coat. And these products are readily available at any of your paint supply stores. So, wherever you're picking up your paint from, maybe you just ask the person there if he can direct you to the proper additives for the job and the task that you're using your paint for. But I would highly recommend using that 'cause it just makes a major difference in the finish quality of the paint with latex. So, please watch our next segment and we'll cover the--applying the first base coat on door jambs."
