"Hi, this is Dan with expertvillage.com. Today we are doing a demonstration about masking. It is one of the first steps you can take and get any paint on your walls. So what I have here is I have 2 inch, 2 inch tape would cover a electrical outlet perfectly with one piece. But covering this we need to be sure we do not get any paint on it and we don't have to do excess clean up after the project has been painted. We would also take the same 2 inch tape and I would cover my outlet, my switches, any door hardware, I would cover 2 inches along the base of the carpet. Now this is a little more detailed because you want to take 1 piece of tape and you want to run it the entire way. By doing this you make sure you not pulling of several pieces of tape giving yourself more likely hood to pull off paint when taking your tape off. So what I would do with this is I would actually put it a little bit on my base approximately a 1/4 inch. Then I would push it down on the carpet. Once I have it to this part, I would come back to the tape and I would push it underneath so it rounds around the carpet. The reason that I do this is to keep any paint that I'm putting on the base boards from getting under the lip of the carpet. This ensures a better quality paint job and happier customers. "
