Series Summary

Painting is the art of using a pigmented medium to create a picture of reality filtered through the imagination, the senses, emotions, and life experience. Artists the world over have multiplied the uses of painting as a vital mode of human expression, whether recording history, retelling myth and legend, expressing religious fervor, or exploring the unknown. From early history to the present, we have records of men and women making graphic representations of their world, showing their understanding and their curiosity.

Acrylic painting has come on the scene in the last 50 years as a popular medium for artists who like to work quickly and prefer not to wait the long periods of time it takes oil paint to dry. Although not a replacement for oil paints, acrylic paints have also proved to be immune to yellowing and cracking over time. In this free painting tutorial, learn the basics of how to paint with painting tips and techniques for beginners, including painting instructions and a painting demonstration.

Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Dan and today I'm doing demonstration for expertvillage.com. We are going to discuss the basics that you need to start painting projects in your home. You would need your paint, you need to choose your colors, and there would be a few simple tools that you would also need. You would need a roller frame, and covers. We would get into that with a little bit more detail in a moment. You would also need a brush, some tape, some drop clothes, and a few miscellaneous tools like screw drivers, drills, and obviously your paint material. As you can see, we have the interior paint here depending upon the size of the project or how much paint we need. We would buy it in 1 gallons. I prefer to get it from a paint store individually like Sherwin-Williams or wherever. You can also get it in 5 gallon buckets. The thing about 5 gallon buckets is they cost less and you get more for it. "
