"Hi, this is Doug on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. Now how do you keep your illusions alive? It's the second rule of magic and that is never do the same trick twice. It's never good the second time, never as good I should say, the second time. Why? Because immediately after you perform the illusion, the mind is going to retrace whatever steps you did to find out what it did to fool itself. It's very problematical for the brain to be fooled. So again, it's going to re-track its steps. If you do the trick a second time, it knows what to look for. A key in magic is the element of surprise. Not seeing something that's going to happen or might happen, happen. Now the only bending of this rule is if you do it the second time, that you change the finished result. So again, there's the element of surprise, thus becomes magic. Thus it's entertaining. You're going to be tempted to do it a second time. Maybe somebody new has come into the crowd. Find a way of not doing this a second time, resisting that temptation. People will poke you and pry you about this, but again, second most important rule of magic. Never do the same trick twice."
