"Now we're going to talk about where to buy yarn. You can buy yarn at the discount houses. You can buy yarn at knit shops and you can buy yarn at craft shops. You can buy yarn online. There are whole sellers all over the place. I would suggest that if you're a beginner you go and you either make friends with somebody who owns a knit shop and get their advice about what's going to work for you pattern and use them as a guide because it's always fun to have a friend to knit with. Or if you're a little bit more budget cautious, go to the discount houses or the craft stores and they generally have some sort of an expert who will help you with it. They won't give you as much guidance as the person in the knit shop, but they'll be able to help you and the yarn will be less expensive. It's probably also less expensive if you buy it online and there's huge amounts of styles and varieties available, all sorts of colors. You can have it shipped right to you. Then if you can find out where your local knit shop is buying their yarns, you can go and probably get a discount buying it that way. Or another really fun thing is in different parts of the country, different parts of the year, they have sort of yarn and knitting conventions. You go there and all of the people want to show you all of their new products and you get to try it out and buy your yarn there and meet some new friends too. Most knitting is done using a pattern. Unlike cooking where you have a recipe and then you can go off from it, most knitters, unless they're really pro, stick to a pattern. You can get patterns online. There are all sorts of websites, free and pay. You can get patterns at any of the shops where you buy yarns. There's even patterns that come on the yarn. If you see a yarn you like and you want to use that, then you can look and see is there something that you want to make that works out well with that yarn. We talked about online, different knit shops that have the patterns, the craft stores that have patterns. There are books. You can even go the library and get a book on knitting. Or the book stores now have all sorts of hip knit books. I'm Jodi Adler with Expert Village. Today, knitting, we discussed casting on, knitting, purling, stocknet stitch, ribbing, where to buy yarn, what kind of places to go for patterns, who to talk to for help, and how to get those recovered drop stitches back up to where you need to be."
