"There are different types of spades games that people play besides the standard partnership two hand game. Variation is a form of the game which is different than the standard game. We know the standard game in spades is partnership, five hundred points, sometimes ten hands, whatever you agree on. It doesn't always have to be five hundred, it could be anything. However, a popular variation of the game is called three handed cut. That's kind of a neat game because you have three players, each playing for him or her self and each one is dealt seventeen cards. They remove the duce of clubs from the deck. Now the thing about this variation is that not only are you playing for yourself but there's seventeen tricks out there. So you're going to see an awful lot more competitive bidding. Since the spades suite of thirteen cards is now divided among three people, somebodies going to have five spades. I don't care how you split it; it's going to be four, four, five. How often do you see stronger suites? Now the thing about playing cut spades is that you place the bag limit at fifty and the game limit at three hundred. Five hundred points is just too long a game. So keep in mind that this is a variation of the game. Its three people playing for themselves, much like hearts. Hearts is a solo; it's a cut throat game. Sometimes if one of the opponents, one of the players, has the audacity to go nill, the other two are going to gang up on him. You work together with the other player if the person that you're trying to get has the higher score. You try to hag them out, you try to go after them. So, basically that is the variation, and it's a very popular variation. It's played on some of the on line sites and hopefully someday they'll at it to grab. Again, three handed spades, cut throat spades."
