"A Glossary of term, and this is a condensed version. A you can find a further glossary of terms and definitions by either going to the internet via one of the search engines or perhaps looking at a copy of the Complete Win At Spades, my card game book on spades. There are several terms that are indigenous or particular to the game of spades, as every card game does have it's own language and phraseology. For example we have the word auction which is the same as bid, and we'll be going through that later on. We have nils and blind nils these are unusually bids that are peculiar and unique to the game of spades. Other words that you'll see are used through out this series are Control, meaning a top card such as an Ace or a King. Cover Which means to play the next ranking card over one that's played such as the Queen, The King over the Queen. Discard means to throw a card off instead of Trumping. Draw means that you?re drawing the card out of the Suite that are remaining. Leads, minor suite, revoke or renege, rough which is another word for Trump, set which is a defense term used for the defeat of the enemies contract, and void meaning that you hold no cards in a particular suit in question. So again the terminology in spades is not just unique to the game of spades, it's also part of many other card games and so I'm sure that a lot of you people that are looking at this particular part of the presentation will be familiar with these terms, and we'll be using these through out the series."
