"All right flood insurance is a very important piece of the pie when you preparing for a major disaster with your house. In the old days they did not require flood insurance as you can see how much they would actually cost. But mortgage companies over the years started requiring mortgage insurance and if you live in certain zones, zones 1,2, and 3 within a creek or major river, things could really add up. Just 5 inches of water can destroy files and items in your house and the price just keeps on getting larger, larger and larger. We had about 6 feet of water on our first floor and I had some friends and neighbors that had water over their roof so it can take a bit chunk of money to rebuild your house and flood insurance is definitely a key in surviving a major disaster.
