"I'm Jay Donnelly for Expert Village and today I am going to show you what you might need in case of a flood emergency. Okay the next step is house preparation. Secure your house. You want to go around your house and you want to shut off utilities such as gas and electric. You can go down to you basement if you have a basement and shut off your water heater, turn off gas items, secure your stove and things like that. Anything that could be interrupted during a flood or emergency that might actually produce a fire within your house which a secondary fire would not help you out in your situation of course. The other things that you want to do is to secure items if your house is flooded from floating around in excessive debris. Now excessive debris will travel from location to location of course after a flood and not only your stuff but your neighbor's items will end up in your yard. So anchor down patio furniture, tools and things like that. So this way is a safer environment during and after a flood. "
