The Dutch oven is a very important piece of culinary history. The dutch oven was a sign of Holland's sand casting superiority, and soon British pot makers were copying the techniques of the the dutch casters to make their own dutch ovens, which they called "casserole dishes" for some reason. In America the Dutch oven played an all important role in the history of the west and the cowboy, with every 'cookie' on every cattle trail cooking his grub in a dutch oven. Despite the slanderous practical joke of the same name, the dutch oven has remained a mainstay of cooking since its creation in the 1600's.

"Hi, this is Leah Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village and today I’m going to show you how to cook with a Dutch oven. So today I’m going to show you how to make a dessert using the Dutch oven inside the house. We’re not going to talk about campfire cooking today, we’re going to talk about using your Dutch oven in the kitchen, which is just a little bit more practical for most people. So the first thing we’re going to talk about is a giant cinnamon pecan ring that is cooked inside the Dutch oven. So I’ll just take you through the ingredients. Of course the first thing you have is a sturdy cast iron Dutch oven, we have some oil that we’re going to use just to grease it, make sure the bread doesn’t stick. We have some milk that we’re going to use for the glaze, we have vanilla, cinnamon sticks for decoration, and then some cinnamon. We have two one pound frozen loaves of bread that have been thawed out, we have brown sugar, butter, pecans, sugar, we have some flour that we’re going to use to roll the bread out with, powered sugar and we’re going to need a sifter to sift it, the powered sugar.
