"Hi, I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com Today we are going to talk about ways to instantly improve your writing. Even skilled writers also get confused about how to make certain words plural. Let's take a look at a couple of examples. Here are a couple of examples to help illustrate this point "he went to the store to buy some DVD's, a lot of people write it this way and it's incorrect. There should be no possessive here it's not something belonging to the DVD so this is the correct version "we went to the store to buy some DVDs". You just add the S and it's understood that it's plural. The second example is "she went to high school in the 1980's", we go the decade here we don't need the possessive here either we just add the S so it's "she went to high school in the 1980s. Some words are easy to make plural and other words for instance DVD and 1980 is harder to make plural. So keep in mind that you usually don't need the possessive apostrophe to make a word plural."
