"Hi, I'm Kari Wethington for expertvillage.com. Today we're going to talk about ways to instantly improve your writing. In all of your work, stick to writing, don't try and be a designer and add crazy fonts, colors, borders, backgrounds. This is a sign of a true novice. Your reader wants to see your message in clear way and in the most professional manner. Added extra art just jumbles everything up. You might not know what I'm talking about when I'm talking about these bad design elements, so let's take a look at a couple of examples. Here's an example of a simple letter from a business colleague and on top we have it in Comic Sans and which is a font that most people are familiar with. It seems kind of fun, sort of informal, but that's exactly what's the problem with it. There's no reason to use a different font. It's safest, especially in business writing, to always stick with Times New Roman, which we have down here. And you can see the difference, this looks much less professional that your basic Times New Roman font. Here we have just a basic paragraph about the wines of Ohio and for no reason it is on a pink background and it has some word art at the top as a title and it is in a blue font. There are so many colors going on here that your reader won't even look at what you are writing. They will just see all these colors and be turned off. So the point to keep in mind in your own writing is to stay as simple as possible. Go for a white background, black text, and simple font such as Times New Roman."
