How to Put Back the Valve Cover

"Hello, I am Mark Blocker on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment we're going to cover installing the valve cover. When installing a valve cover or any other engine components, it's critical to know the tightening sequence and the torque specifications. Most all of the components of a vehicle are put together with a torque specifications tightening specs. Which tells you how many, how tight to tighten the bolts. It's usually measured in foot pounds and done with a torque wrench. And this varies from vehicle to vehicle, the sequence of which bolts to tighten in which order and how tight to tighten them. That information can be found in your repair manuals. A lot of times with most major manufacturers it's shipped with the gaskets or can be obtained from your parts supplier. They can give you that information when you pick up the gasket kits. Or, as I said the repair manual or it can be obtained from your dealer. But it's critical to know this information because if you were to tighten them down too tight it could cause the valve cover to warp, crack or break. To install it we're basically doing the same thing we did in removing it, just in reverse procedure. We want to make sure that it just slips down. You want to avoid having contact with any other object as you're sliding it in. So you make sure that gasket stays in place and doesn't fall out on the installation process. After you get it down just kind of give a visual look all the way around. You can see the new gasket and ensure that it's still in it's groove and hasn't flipped out. Inspect it all the way around.
