In these clips we're going to talk about the proper way to remove and replace an engine valve cover, that is cracked, excessively worn, rusted out, or otherwise defective. In this clip we are going to talk about removing some of the engine accessories, in order to gain access to the valve cover. The things you're going to have to remove will vary pretty widely. But we're just going to go over it for a point of reference for you. If you can see this power steering line does have to come off because it's bolted directly to the valve cover. Our ignition wires run straight through the valve cover. They're going to have to come off. Along with a vacuum line and the PCV valve. We'll start with the easiest step first. We'll pop out the PCV valve. It's best to wiggle these kinds of things, not just try and yank them directly out. They're normally made of plastic and the tees are plastic and the vacuum lines can get what they call embrittle. Which will cause them to crack and break if you're rougher on them then you should be. Same principle with the vacuum line. Wiggle it of course. If you notice it's starting to crack or if it's deteriorated, it's a good idea to go ahead and replace it. Your plug wires. These ones pop right out straight up through the top. And lastly our power steering line. This one happens to be a 10mm. Take it and remove the bolts. Alright. I got my trusty magnetic tray here. I love to use it because your bolts stick to it and if you knock it off the car, they won't go scattering everywhere. If you don't happen to have one, its a good idea just to throw them in your pocket.
