"So I want to talk to you now a little bit now about the rhythm called the clave. This is it, you're counting off, one two, three, four. That's the clave. Now that rhythm originated in West Africa, but was brought over to Brazil, and Cuba and even America, unfortunately through the slave trade, but that's how it was brought over, that's how a lot of music was made. In Brazil, they took and made the samba, and later the Bosa Nova, which I'm going to be showing you. And in Cuba, they took it, and it's all over Cuban music, and then in America, it became a part, like in New Orleans, they have the second line drumming which is New Orleans style of marching, it's just the marching, the marching style they have there. They use a lot of clave rhythms in there. So, it's important that you know what the clave is, where it comes from, and also, I believe the African term for clave is 'key', it means like to key, it means like the clave is the key to this music, so check it out.
