"Hi, I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to be learning how to play a drum roll. So now that we're playing bounce, and we're alternating between the right and left hand, let's take a look at how we normally would play a drum roll. We like to call that Open-Close-Open. And what Open-Close-Open means, is you start out slow. With the single stroke, where for every wrist movement you have, you produce only one note. Where we do right right, left left, right right, left left. And we have the one note produced with one wrist movement. That's the open portion, okay it's slower typically. As you speed that up you have a transition from the single stroke to the double stroke. Which is where per one wrist movement, you have two strokes. Then you get into where you're actually playing the roll and you're using the bounce like we have talked about. That's your Close portion. So we have open, close, and you get real fast in the close section, and then as you start to slow back up, you have to transition back from a double stroke or one wrist movement equals two notes produced. You have that transition back to the single stroke, one wrist movement, one stroke. Okay, open, close, open. That's how we're going to play our roll. And that's how to play a roll properly. So let's go ahead and take a look at our next step."
