"Hi I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to be learning how to play a Bossa Nova drum beat. In this next step, before we get started in playing and some other technique things I want to actually show you how to draw what the drum beat or the Bossa Nova beat would look like on a piece of paper. I know, probably, you don't know much about like music theory, what notes look like and all that stuff, but this really will help you, help give you a visual of what it looks like and it's going to help you place where to put like your foot and your hands and it's just like a nice visual puzzle of what to do. Grab a sharpie or a pen or something and a sheet of paper; turn the sheet of paper sideways. Then draw a line on either side. Now, this represents your one bar, Ok, from here to here. Now what we are going to do is we're going to put and X right there and we're going to put an X about right here and put an X about right here and an X about right there. It's pretty even and draw lines to each of those. Now, we talked about quarter notes, these are your quarter notes: one, two, three and four. Now, since we're dealing with sixteenth notes; sixteenth notes; each quarter note has four sixteenth notes. So the way you draw these, is we're going to draw each one gets three more Xs to make a total of four. That's sixteenth notes for the beat of one. We're just going to continue down the line; same thing for three and the same thing for four. That's what that should look like. That is one bar of sixteenth notes. Now what we're going to do is we're going to call that the hat. I'm going to actually; those lines just show you like those are the in between each individual beat. Let's go ahead and do the kick drum, because the kick drum is the second easiest thing."
