Breaking Down A High Hat

"I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village and today I'm going to show you how to pack up your drum kit efficiently. Now that we've got our cases out and ready to pack, be packed away, the first thing I like to do is start working on the cymbals. And packing them away first so I'm not scratching drums on cymbals and stuff. They're just, they're in the way and I just like to get them out of the way. So the first cymbal I pack up is my high hat. And this is for a couple of reasons. First I loosen the clutch, pull the top high hat off, okay and then go ahead and unscrew the clutch. There's a nut right there. And then what I do is actually rescrew together or whatever the high hat clutch so it's still, it's back in one piece. Then what I do is I pull the bottom high hat off the stand and I put the clutch back on the high hat post and I tighten it. So now I know where my high hat clutch is. It's not in my stick bag in case for some reason I'm not using this drum kit and I have it in my stick bag and I'm playing someone else's drum kit, now I don't have one. It's this, this clutch always stays with this stand no matter whether I'm playing this kit or whether I'm not playing this kit. So that's why I put it back on here, I don't stick it in my stick bag. And go ahead and tighten it. Now I'm going to go ahead and pack this away in my cymbal case, and there is a method to my madness. And that is I pack my high hat cymbals away first because they're the smallest. And if I pack the bigger cymbals away first, and put those on top, there's a possibility that they would just sit there and slide while they're in transport in the back of the van or on a plane or something. So I put the smaller cymbals in first and then build. Let's go ahead and take a look at what our next step is."
