Series Summary

A drum kit is a collection of drums, cymbals and stands organized in an easy to play pattern for the person using them. The early forms of drum kits were comprised almost solely of high hat cymbals, a kick drum and a snare. Today drum kits are usually much larger and use one if not several toms and other percussive instruments attached to them. In the 1980's electronic drum kits were thrown into the mix which have all the same sounds as a regular acoustic kit but offer more creativity and exploration with different sounds that can be programmed into the drums themselves. For example you can set the snare to sound very deep, very high or even nothing like a snare at all.

In this free video clip series you will learn the proper way to identify, assemble and transport you drum kit as well as tips and techniques on how to take care of your kit so it will last as long as you do. There are many different pieces to a full drum kit and our expert will walk you through the break down of each one and why it works the way that it does. You will also learn methods of play that will help your drum heads to last longer and your kit to sound better. Take a gander and go hit the skins!

"I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village, and today I'm going to show you how to pack up your drum kit efficiently. Hi, I'm Shaun Schaefer and I've been playing the drums for quite a long time. Probably fifteen or sixteen years, and for the past six or seven years, I've been in the band, the pop rock band Blessid Union Of Souls. I've played hundreds, thousands of shows all over the world for thousands of people. And it's such a great experience to be able to go travel and to play in front of you know, a few hundred to several thousand people at any given show. And the adrenaline you have to play a show's so awesome and the excitement you have when you're before the show. When during the show it's just such a great feeling. But then there's that one horrible moment of the night that no musician wants to have to deal with. And it comes at the end of the night when your adrenaline rush comes down and you got to pack up your gear. That's the worst part of the night. So today what I'm going to do, I'm going to show you how I pack up my drum kit and it's a very efficient way. So as soon as I'm done off the show, five or ten minutes, I'm out the door. I don't have to worry about the loading of the gear. So let's take a look at what our first step is."
