"Hi, this is David Pakman on behalf of Expert Village. In this video series, I'll be talking about the fundamentals of jazz drumming. The last snare comping exercise that we're going to look at, adding in our bass drum and really playing that bass drum quietly the way we would actually do in a jazz setting, not the way we would play it in rock and roll setting. It is to play it just on the third triplet partial. So when you're counting one and a two and a, we're just going to play on the a's, one and a two and a three and a four and a one and a two and three and a four and a one. Now you really want to pay attention to my snare drum hand. I'm not doing this at all. I'm almost just dropping it, because we're just complimenting the jazz ride pattern, which is really the basis for jazz. This is just a little bit to add on and my hand stays very relaxed. I'm almost just dropping that stick."
