"Hi, this is David Pakman on behalf of Expert Village. In this video series, I'll be talking about the fundamentals of jazz drumming. Our next snare comping pattern is going to be a very simple one and it's a standard shuffle pattern. And a shuffle is basically taking eighth notes and just swinging them. So, I'm going to be playing this on the snare drum, I'm still going to keep one and a two a three, four, a one, going on my jazz ride cymbal and the hi hat will play on every two and every four. I can play the notes on the snare drum as quietly as I want, not too loud though, because I'm comping. I'm just complimenting what's going on on the ride cymbal."
