"Hi, this is David Pakman on behalf of Expert Village. In this video series I'll be talking about the fundamentals of jazz drumming. Once we're familiar with this counting in groups of six, the next step is to actually count this the way that we count in jazz. And jazz is usually thought of in twelve eight which is in groups of three. A dotted quarter note. 1 a, 2 a, 3 a, 4 a. And the way this works is that we're going to be playing on the following beats. 1 a, 2 a, 3 a, 4 a, 1 a, 2 a, 3. The hi-hat with our foot instead of being on four because we're taking the time and cutting it in half is going to be on two and on four. So, we're going to have 1 a foot a, 2 a foot a, 1 a foot, a 3. So, I'll play this now a little bit faster. You can still count in your head with the hi-hat and with the jazz ride."
