"Hi this is David Pakman on behalf of Expert Village. In this video series I'll be talking about the fundamentals of jazz drumming. The next step in developing our fundamental Jazz Ride pattern is now that we have the Jazz beat, we're counting in sixes. Or playing one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two. Is where we're going to be adding the Hi Hat with our foot on the four. So we're still keeping the Jazz Ride pattern going. The Hi Hat is going to come in on the four. So I'll play that for you very slowly. And definitely count when you practice this. What you want to keep in mind is that the Hi Hat shouldn't be splashy. It should just be the two Hats and the two Cymbals coming together. We shouldn't have any Cymbals clanging together. We really want to keep the Hi Hat very tight in that sense. And we're still counting in sixes. The next step is we'll actually our counting to what the Jazz counting really is."
