"So when you go through and you read, you want to try to read off the root. So you have a melody say like this. So you can start, just go through and number 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 3, 7, 6, 7, 1 and jumps up to the 3, 4 and 5th. So you can see the pattern now. If you go through and start with a different root with a different scale, you can play the exact same melody in every key. So you really want to go through and analyze this. Now if you have some stuff in here that looks like this. Say you have a flat in front of this 3 here, so that would be a flat 3 so you would play a G flat which is a 3rd on the scale flatted. Or say if you had a natural sign, instead of playing a B flat, you would play a B natural which is the white key above the B flat. So we are going to over a little bit more on reading and writing later on in lessons. So right now, try to take it in and maybe try to write some of your own simple melodies in the key of E flat. "
