"Hi I'm Dan on behalf of Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about brushes and sticks. Depending on the style of jazz piece you are playing you may want to use sticks or brushes. Brushes have a lighter sound and are used mostly when playing ballets or really soft jazz. These happen to be made out of plastic but they are traditionally made out of metal. They just have a different sound that they kind of for the same purpose. Brushes are great for using on slow jazz pieces such as ballets cause the are a lot quieter and sort of less a little less in the way. Where as sticks if you are playing say big band music and you really want to help out the big band and kick it and accent certain parts. You would want to use sticks so you can play louder. Watch our next segment to how to swing."
