"Hi. I'm Jabari Pride and we're back with ExpertVillage.com. We just went over the history of track and field and now we are going to talk about the equipment that's needed in track and field. There are many, many events and some of the basic stuff, just, for warming up to compete in any event. You need something warm to wear. Kind of like what I'm wearing now. These are track sweats. I've got a top and bottoms. You usually have something underneath to keep you warm. Something usually tight like spandex, because it locks the heat in and it keeps your muscles in place and something up top to, like a tighter shirt or layers to keep yourself warm so when you do warm up you work up a good sweat. Your shoes that you are going to want to wear; when you're warming up you're going to want to wear running shoes. They're going to keep your feet from getting really damaged. You don't want to wear anything like clunky walking shoes or dress shoes. You're running so you want to wear running shoes. Alright; for the many different types of events in track and field, like the sprinting events, when you really get down to the focused individual events you're going to have your focused shoes for that event. For, like, the one hundred you're going to have your sprinting shoes. They're going to be lighter. They are going to have spikes on the bottom. They are not going to have much of a heel on them. You can use the same shoes for the two hundred and the four hundred. When you start to get up in the longer events the shoes are going to become a little bit more flatter and they are going to have a thicker heel, because you are going to be striking the heel on the ground when you are running in these events. Events like huddling, same thing; you know, you are going to have a heel, because when you hurdle you are going to land on your heel. You do want that padding there; where as a hundred meter shoe there is really not going to be any heel because your heel is not going to strike the ground when you're sprinting. With your jumping events, and like your pole vault, your long jump, your triple jump your shoes are going to be thicker towards the heel because your heel will be slamming into the ground. Once again you don't want to hurt yourself, hurt your feet so you are going to need that padding on your heel. That was just a brief cover of some of the equipment that you are going to need in track. Next we are going to talk about some safety issues in track and field. Thank you."
