My name is Rodney Fielitz I'm a certified flight instructor in Cottonwood, AZ and I'm here to give you the basics of what it takes to become a pilot. The next phase of training both on the ground and on the airplane is what we call stalls. Stalls a lot of people are scared to do stalls and get intimidated by them but the airplane is basically designed into flight itself. It actually flies better without us but what we have to do is teach students how to get into a stall recognize a stall and recover from a stall. And there are different kinds of stalls and these are all parts of the ground school that we teach you plus it's part of the exam that you have to take for your flight test. We have what we call a take off and departure stall, again we do these stalls in a higher altitude to give us a little safety and we simulate a take off. What you do in a take off if your accelerating out and your climbing to steep and you keep pulling back on the plane, keep pulling back and eventually the airplane is going to quite flying and stall. What happens this is characteristics that we teach in the ground school what it is going to make the airplane stall, what's going to make it fly again. So the first thing you want to do is pitch the nose down and add some power and get the airplane flying again, the other kind of stall is an approach to landing stall. Again we do these in altitude and we simulate approach to landing some people come in and they get a little to slow when the airplane quites flying and the only thing you can do is come down to the ground, gravity wins. We have another kind of stall called accelerated stall we make this airplane stall at any air speed and any configuration so we need to teach you how to do this. What's the worst part about stalls? Is getting into a spin, spins are scary and spins do kill people, this is one of the reasons they've taken spins out of our cilibus we do not any longer teach spins, but we do teach stalls and hopefully you will learn to recognize the stall and recover from a stall before it becomes a spin.
