"Hi, I'm Brenda F. Dixon, the owner of Life Help Now in Nashville, Tennessee and we're here today with Expert Village. We're talking about how to handle ADHD and identify ADHD in children. Another trait for children is the child, they really forget, I've already talked to you about how they forget but they have a lot of trouble following instructions. For example; a parent might give instructions on what they want them to do and they'll hear either the first part or the last part or maybe the middle. I mean they just don't hear the whole thing and it's kind of like they're not able to listen to all of what is being said. They can only hold it together for a short period of time. So the child that has ADHD appears not to be listening, this really enrages angers parents because they say, "you're not listening to me". Well remember the child with ADHD does not really have the capability to listen or to follow all the way through because they're missing some of the chemicals that help them with that behavior. So it's very important to know that children that have ADHD are not trying to trip you up as a parent, they're actually, what they're doing is they're trying to survive with what they've got. So it's the parents responsibility to start to show them how to handle this. There are methods, there are ways of handling this."
