"Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we're talking about is how to run a basic reverse play. Our concentration is what the quarterback does after he hands the ball off. The quarterback gets his chance in this play to make something happen. Most quarterbacks are not known for getting out and making a lot of contact. But sometimes, especially at the middle school level, the quarterback will be one of the most athletic people on the field. So, you can get him out here and use him as a blocker. They don't have to make a huge block but they do need to get out and get in the way, hit somebody and knock them out and hopefully free their wide receiver for more yardage. So, what you'll see happening here is (video demo) he's going to fake it, he's going to hand it off. He has to come out and start head hunting. If somebody gets past the point guard who's in front of him or if the wide receiver doesn't get a good block down on the defensive end or the tight end doesn't release up and misses the safety, if anybody comes down through this hole or if they're in the backfield, this quarterback has to get back here and make contact with somebody and get them out of the way so the receiver can come through. It's very, very important for the quarterback to stay involved in a reverse play to make it work for it's full effect."
