"Hi, this is Sean Hobson for Expert Village, what I want to talk about right now is when running a 6-2 defense, we want to talk about the positioning of our linebackers. Now in this defense our linebackers are going to be used in a couple of different ways. One is when we bring everybody up to stop the run, we're going to bring our linebackers up a little bit closer to the line of scrimmage, and we're going to tilt them a little bit more towards the middle of the field. The reason is, is because our defensive ends have moved out a little bit, with adding two players to the offensive line. So these guys are usually going to play in the middle of the field, and they're going to have to control these big guys on either side. But in pass coverage, if we're afraid a team might try and dump a pass on us in here, because the linebackers are up too close. All that quarterback has got to do is drop a short pass right here, right behind the linebackers, and then there's only one man to stop them in back d. So sometimes we may drop these guys back about three yards maybe five yards even. And they can come up and make tackles in the run game, but they can also stay back in the passing game. That's the alignment of the two linebackers."
