"Michael Lewis with Yeshua martial arts on behalf of Expert Village, we are here today to talk about basic striking techniques. Now we are going to cover a front kick. There's two ways to throw a front kick one is to point your toes back and to be able to kick with the ball of your foot or to point with your toes downward and kick with the top of the foot. Now that depends on the striking surface. If your surface is straight up you are going to pull your toes back so you do not break your toes, again, also you are going to pick up your knee and point it towards your target and then snap out the kick and bring it right back, you are going to recoil your kick. As you bring your knee up you're going to snap it out and then pull it right back. Again, use the ball of your foot to strike to a vertical target. As you do this you can also use it to push away an opponent. If he's getting too close in I can sort of jump back, throw a kick and use it to push. That way I'm able to get some distance in between. You'll also use that as sort of a snapping motion to where if you're striking to someone's solo flex or right into the gut you strike and then pull it right back out. It has two slightly different motions one is more pushing, or pushing and stepping forward or snapping your kick. The other way to throw this kick is by using the top of the foot. So, we'll change targets. Now I'm kicking to a horizontal shield. This is as if the person is bent over. You're kicking them in the face; you're kicking them in the mid section or in the groin. So, he has his shield up again I'm going to bring up my knee so I'm pointing towards my target and then I'm going to snap out the kick. Always, keep in mind though to keep the whipping action into your kick; to put whipping action into your kick much like you would pop a towel or a tee-shirt. Your hands are up, you throw the kick and pull it right back. Always keep your balance too; it's very important, because if you get yourself off balance in this kick it's not going to do any good. Again your hands are up, you point your knee, snap out your kick and pull it back. That's your basic overview of a front snap kick."
