"Michael Lewis with Yeshua martial arts on behalf of Expert Village, we are here today to talk about basic striking techniques. Now we are covering a spinning back fist. The most important thing about spinning back fist is not only the striking, making sure that you are striking with the back two knuckles instead of the back of the hand so that you possibly don't break those bones, but also footwork, footwork is tremendously important in how you do a back fist. So, if we set up we're going to set up with my right leg forward, my hands are up, I'm going to take my back leg and I'm going to shift it behind and then twist all the way around and strike. There are several ways to do this you can retreat with a back fist or you can move in as an offensive with a back fist. The way to do that is if I'm here, I'm stepping instead of just sliding it back and then twisting. I'm actually going to sort of slide it back and up then twist and that will move closer to my target. That way if he's moving backwards I'm able to stay with him. If he's moving in towards me, as a way of retreating, I'm going to pick up my right leg and then I'm going to step back. So, say if we're really close, really close, in contact and I'm trying to get some distance in between I'm going to step over and then twist and throw my back fist as if he were moving in. That way you have a way of moving in, staying exactly where you are and retreating. Also, another way of doing it is that if he's coming in a straight line towards me trying to attack I'm going to step more out to the side. I'll step back, spin and that way I'm out of the line of fire pretty much and I'm striking him towards his temple. To follow up after that to continue to get out of the line and possibly follow up with another technique I take my right leg and I step forward and that way I have completely gone out of the line of fire. That's just a basic overview of a spinning back fist. Again the most important thing is you strike with the back knuckles, turn your wrists slightly back and also footwork. It takes a lot of practice to be able to execute a spinning back fist and still maintain your balance."
