"Michael Lewis with Yeshua martial arts on behalf of Expert Village, we are here today to talk about basic striking techniques. Here is a review of the upper cut. Most people want to throw an upper cut, but they throw it incorrectly because they have a tendency to twist their wrist into the technique. That can cause a lot of, lot of, injury when you're twisting your wrist. As you're practicing this technique I would not practice it to a stand up bag trying to throw upper cuts like this, because of the twisting of the wrist. Instead you want to find a bag that you are able to strike to an upper surface striking up. The proper way that an upper cut should be done. He has his hands up. If you are throwing an upper cut technique you can throw it off the lead hand, it's a very quick technique and also it's still very powerful since you're coming up underneath the jaw. As you are throwing this strike here all you have to do is twist your hips up into your technique. You twist your hips forward and as you do that you can throw your upper cut technique. Keep in mind, again, not to twist the wrist; whether to the sides or too far around as you throw the technique. If you are going to throw it with the reverse hand; as you twist, again, twist your feet to come up, but also make sure that you get your shoulder and body up underneath the technique, underneath the striking surface rather so that you again you do not twist your wrist. Also this is a very, very dangerous technique even if done in sparring you can cause a lot of injury to the jaw and definitely, possible knock somebody out. When you are practicing this practice it with a lot of care. That is just your basic overview of an upper cut strike."
