"Hello, I'm Reggie here with Expert Village. Now, we are talking about the main components of home theater systems. They're comprised of two things: number one is audio, number two is video. And right now let's talk about audio. So what I have with me right here is a variety of speakers that you can see in the shots right here. We have sort of main speakers. This would be considered a three-way speaker because it has a cone. It covers a medium and a tweeter as well to cover your highs. This is a two-way speaker because it has two cones. Now, these would be good for main speakers or maybe a center speaker, but you also have rear speakers back here in the back as you can see in the top right here. Those are smaller speakers because they don't have to produce the same sounds that main speakers are going to have to produce. Some home-theater-in-a-box projects are going to have just the four of these and maybe something like a subwoofer. And in this case we've got a 12 inch subwoofer sitting here. Now the way a speaker works, the principal behind the speaker, its main purpose is to push air. That's all a speaker really does. It operates off of frequencies, and the cone actually pushes in and pulls out, pushes in and pulls out. You probably won't see this with your human eye. You may see it vibrate sometimes especially on base, but that's how a speaker generally works. Now, as we said earlier this is a two-way speaker. What this means is that it has, this is about a 4 inch speaker right here. So the low is your base. This would be your door slams. This would be low tones in your voice, things like that. This right here is going to be your mid-range. This is going to cover a lot of your voices. This is going to cover a lot of tones that are between your highs and your base obviously. And as you can see right over here on this one. This one's a three-way speaker, and as I said earlier what makes it a three-way speaker is it has it offers both base, it offers both of your mid-range, but it also offers your high range off of the tweeter right here, which is going to be very high, sometimes shrill sounds. It's gonna be like your s's. Sssss. Things like that. The advantage of what this does is that it offers you a nice crisp balance of things between having your rear speakers and between having these three-way speakers and two way speakers. So why do we get into how to choose the right speakers for your main speakers."
