Series Summary

Gnocchi is a dumpling dish made of potato, semolina, flour or ricotta cheese, and can be made with or without spinach. It is traditionally an Italian dish, but has become very popular in several South American countries as a cheap but hearty meal. While gnocchi is often listed among pasta dishes in restaurants, and is cooked in a similar manner, it is not technically a pasta and can fall apart easily if overcooked. Generally best if made fresh, gnocchi is frequently served with a tomato sauce, brown butter and sage sauce, or with melted butter and cheese.

In this free cooking video series, our expert will demonstrate how to make a delicious gnocchi recipe. You will learn how to prepare the potatoes for gnocchi, and how to mix the potatoes with the other ingredients to create gnocchi dough. Our expert chef will also show you how to make a homemade tomato and meat sauce to accompany your gnocchi. "Hello, my name is Angela Faiola and today on behalf of Expert Village, we are going to learn how to make gnocchi. The ingredients are about a pound and half of potatoes, 2 eggs, about a 1 1/2 cup of flour. 2 cans of tomato sauce, puree, some salt, some pepper, some olive oil, some beef flank, some carrots about 5 small carrots. 1 onion and some fresh basil leaves, some grated Parmesan cheese. For your appliances you are going to need 1 fork, a cutting knife, a ladle, a wooden spoon, a mash potato maker. Now you can use this or you can use the traditional one. You want a measuring cup, a large grater with open holes and you want a ladle with split openings, a couple of containers, a pot, another pot, a pressure cooker and a pasta strainer. Those are the ingredients and the appliances that you would need."
