Budapest, Hungary is often considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the “Paris of the East,” becoming for the last decades a political, cultural, and economic hub. Beginning as a Celtic settlement in the first century BCE, the Romans took over the city at the beginning of the Christian era and held it long into the reign of the Eastern Empire. Soon, however, wave after wave of barbarian tribe claimed the town and added their own marks to the rich culture that was growing. The Ottomans ruled Budapest before Mongol invasions and French occupation. The cities of Buda and Pest that would become Budapest in 1873 were even key sights during the Renaissance that spread through Northern Italy and Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. Many other nations controlled the cities before Hungary claimed sovereignty in 1918.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Sarah Satmari and I'm a tour guide in Budapest and I work for Yellow Zebra Tours and we're here on behalf of Expert Village tonight. And we're here in order to learn a little bit about Budapest, my hometown. In this clip, I will be speaking about how one can spend a beautiful, romantic night in Budapest. If you take a look around, here we are on the wonderful Venue Promenade, which the Hungarians basically became famous for. The wonderful, illuminated promenade is something you really have to experience at once. If you'd like to eat a nice goulash, maybe, or a famous Hungarian fish soup, and drink unicum next to that, you can do it here in Budapest anywhere. Maybe let's see the second restaurant or let's go up on the Buda side on the Buda hill and take a look at the lovely medieval restaurants there. Or what if we get in the Sir Lancelot, where you can feel like a medieval Hungarian king. And then, you just take a look at the most famous pastry shop, Gerbeaud, and then you walk along the Venue, maybe with champagne in your hands. Then it will be a really romantic night for you. And, of course, don't forget to try out the famous Hungarian wines or the shots of ours."
