"We're going to make a red velvet cake from scratch. This is my 96th year old grandma's recipe. I'm originally from Alabama so this is the southern red velvet cake delight. Let me tell you how to get started; we're going to use 2 cups of sugar, I already pre-measured my sugar and it's in the bowl so we're all set. We're going to use 2 sticks of butter. I already premelted my butter so it's here, 2 eggs it doesn't matter if they're medium eggs or large eggs, just two eggs are fine. We're going to use red food coloring (I use 2 full oz of it), cocoa powder 2 tablespoons, baking powder just to get that rise, vinegar. I know what you are thinking vinegar in a cake but let me tell you it's good. We're going to use baking soda, cake flour. Now here's the difference' a lot of people think that they can use all purpose flour for everything but let me tell you. When you're baking cake from scratch, please buy the cake flour and I tell you another tip to but to fry a chicken in cake flour, unbelievable. We're going to use salt, buttermilk, vanilla extract and Philadelphia cream cheese. The trick with cream cheese is that you don't necessarily have to add it in but I use it because I like my cakes really thick. I like it almost with a pound cake texture and feel to it so if that's really not your preference, try using about 1/2 of stick first to see if you like it. If you like it go for it and put the whole eight ounces in or just use the same recipe that I'm providing today but without the cream cheese. Last but not least our mixer."

on 8/12/2008 Hey. great video, but you see, im from denamrk, so we don't have cake flour. What can you use isted of that?
I tried to make a red velvet cake one time, but it didn't get tha beautiful dark-red color, it was more pink. And VERY heavy and thick. Those I see on the pictures are usually very moist and looks so darn good, but mine looked more like a rock. Very heavy, very thick and very untasty. :(
I hope that your recipe will help me to creat a better cake :D
