"A great thing to do when you are about to get started painting is to think about where you want to place your objects on your canvass and to take a really light pencil. This is just a regular pencil. It's like a school pencil and sketch in roughly where you want your objects to be. You can go ahead and take your pencil sketch in where you want your object to be. This is going to be a really easy one for the purpose of demonstration. Then also it's great to just sort of draw in a horizon line and you can do this anywhere you want. Really it doesn't have to be anywhere in particular. But this sort of helps to make it look like your object is not floating in space, so now we know this is on a table and when we paint it in and put a shadow down. We'll see, it's actually sitting on a flat table. After you have placed your horizon line and once you have filled your shape in and put down a shadow, it will really help to make it look like it's sitting on a table. Now you can see that your objects are where you want them to be on the canvass and you are ready to lay your paint down."
