Here is a little tip on how to avoid smudging your pencil over your paper. Eventually when you after you sketched in your basic shapes and you go back into do a little more detail, You're probably going to realize that you have ended up smudging your hand, then you are going to start smudging your paper and it kind of ends up being a little messy. So what I like to do is just get a piece of paper or a paper towel and just put it down over your drawing really and lay your hand on it. Then you have rest your hand and continue to draw in and fill in your shapes then you will not be smudging your drawing all over the place. Smudging can be useful if it's intentional but I think once you start getting it all over your hands you're going to end up finding that it's going to end up in places that you don't want it to be. If it does, it's okay because you can use your eraser. If you need to so if that happens try to put down a piece of paper.
