"So the next thing you want to do is roughly measure out your still life and how it's going to go on your paper. You can take your pencil and actually close one eye and put it across your still life, see how long it is then flip your pencil up and see about how tall it is. This still life is about half as tall as it is wide. I want to look at the paper here and you want to feel your paper; don't have a big piece of paper here and do like a tiny little drawing here. Take advantage of your space so you don't want to start drawing and then say "oops," I think it's wrong just make a little marks. A couple of marks around the edges to sort of gage where the apple is going to be and then you can sort of go around and decide where this the persimmon is going to be. Then the other one would be about there so very very lightly I roughed it in and now I'm going to get ready to sketch."
