The first thing you're going to need is some paper. Really you can use any paper you want. There are so many different kinds if you are just starting out I would suggest a newsprint or sketching paper and you can buy a pad at your local art store. It's great cause they usually have multiple pages and you can just practice and mess up and it doesn't matter. Something if you want to go a little bit nicer you can actually get some drawing paper or some bristol board which is a little bit thicker. It's a little bit nicer and you probably don't want to practice on it, that would be if you're getting a little bit further along. You can also use water color paper or charcoal paper which I'm actually going to use today. There are also different weights and thicknesses of the paper and you can play with these, experiment. There is no right, there's not wrong. It's really what you prefer. So would suggest you going down to your local art store and just really looking through and rub them and feel the texture they go anywhere from thin and smooth to thicker and rougher. Go test them out see what you think you might like and buy a couple of different kinds. Don't get anything expensive cause you're going to want to practice.
