What Are Hair Lowlights?

"Hi, I'm Amelia on behalf of expertvillage.com I'll be talking about highlighting at home. Lowlight are anything in your hair any color in your hair that is darker than your natural color. Or I should say darker than the all over color. So let's say you're a blond and you are wanting to tone down your blond you can go in and put lowlights. Those can be your natural color, those can be red, copper, gold those can be any color other than the lightest color on your head. So if your mannequin light and you want to add some depth you would go in and have some lowlights done. Let's say you're a brunette and you just want to add some recession to the hair then you would add a lowlight. A lowlight is anything like I said darker than the overall base color of the hair. So as you can see this particular mannequin has medium brown hair and we went in and lowlighted black, that just adds dimension there. Lowlights actually recede so it's a great way to add thickness to the hair if you're going to do highlights and lowlights it's a great way to add some multi dimension. This particular mannequin has her natural color she has a red, black and a gold going through and even some of those other lights we even have a nice midlight, which is not basically a highlight or lowlight. But yet a little bit different from the base color and that is sort of a bronze. As you can see the lowlights really add a lot more dimension and they can add depth to the hair."
