"Hi, I'm Amelia and on behalf of Expert Village, I'll be talking to you about understanding the laws of hair color. Permanent color is exactly that, it's permanent. It cannot be removed. You can put color over it to go darker, but you can't go lighter. So let's say that you have a permanent color level five on your hair, and you want to go to a level eight. Well in order for you to do that you're going to have to go to the salon and have a corrective process done. But if you're a level five and you just want to go to a level four, let's say for the fall, all you'd have to do would be go to the store and get a ten volume developer, or you could even use just the box of color and that would be no problem. But you would permanently be a level four. In other words, you're going to get a line of demarkation, you're going to get a root growth as you commonly see, you know, you commonly get those roots every four to six weeks, so that means every four to six weeks you're going to have to reapply that color to the roots only. And you can't high, the only way to remove the color from the hair would be to use lightener."
