"This is Zach with Expert Village and today I am going to walk you through some trouble shooting with an external hard drive. If your external hard drive isn't showing up on your desk top, make sure that all of your connections are plugged in properly. We have our USB cable connected to our computer so it looks like everything is good on this end but here on the other end, it looks like our cable is not completely connected so let's plug it in and now the drive has been recognized on the system. Ensuring that your connections are secure between your hard drive and your computer is very important. When you sometimes might move your hard drive or your computer around, you can pull the cables and even unplug them. This is not very good if your hard drive is currently connected to your computer and in use. Removing a device without ejecting it first can lead to data corruption and even the loss of your file system so always make sure that your computer and hard drive are securely connected together and that when moving one or the other device, just make sure you don't move them so far that the cable stretches and pulls in the device ejects without properly being ejected from the operating system first.
