"Hi, I’m Gary for Expert Village. As we said before the nice thing about Excel is its ability to do calculations and it can do them by formulas which we are going to take a look at or it can just simply do them by adding in an equation in the formula bar. Let’s say we select this cell, which is B6 and for B6 I wanted to, want to show the value of, I want it to equal, want it to equal the number four plus five plus seven and I hit enter and I get the calculation right on the spot. So if I click on here, I see on the formula bar the, the value is sixteen but the actual formula that I put in is four plus five plus seven. So that’s one way of doing equations but the real beauty is to use the address of cells so that we can constantly be updating information and the worksheet itself will also update and perform calculations for us and this is really the power of the Excel program. So we are going to go ahead and create a formula instead of just putting in digits. I’m going to erase that and we will see that if we either, once we learn the formulas we can, we can write them in ourselves, but initially what we are going to do is we are going to get some help from the formula wizard. If we click on the little fx that’s next to the formula bar we see that we get a window and it’s letting us pick a type of formula that we want. So for this, this example I’m going to just find a, a simple, simple equation which is going to be “sum” which is addition and I’m going to click on “sum” and I’m going to hit “ok”. "
