"Pretty soon people are going to start seeing how well you've been doing. And I hate to be the one to tell you this, but there's always someone itching to beat the fastest gun. You will be attacked if you play Travian, and you need to know how to defend yourself. That's all there is to it. I am going to tell you how to make sure that you optimize your defensive potential to smash anyone who thinks that they can mess with you. You've got a couple of different strategies. The first strategy is called the wall. That's where you gear up all of your defensive troops throw them wherever the attack is going to hit and just hope for the best. This is a really good strategy if you are big, and you're attacker isn't. It's a very bad strategy if your attacker is strong enough to kill all of your troops, because then you are left with nothing. The second defensive strategy is to dodge the attack. It may seem counterintuitive to just move all of your troops away from a village that's going to be attacked, but the odds are that village isn't going to get hurt too much anyway and you'll be protecting the lives of your troops. The final strategy is to counter that attack, which is a variant on dodging. Instead of just sending the troops away you actually attack your opponent while he is attacking you, and while his troops are away, you are damaging his village in turn."
