What is Bit Torrent?

Bit Torrents is a peer-to-peer file sharing communications protocol first introduced by Bram Cohen in 2001. Instead of using the original distributors bandwidth and hosting all the time, bit torrent protocol shares data with new recipients, which is then used to interface with the next recipient, thus alleviating the cost and pressure on the original distributor. Azureus is one of the most popular bit torrent protocols and has been used since its inception in 2003. Bit torrent has become especially helpful in music and movie downloads over the internet.
