"Hey everybody! My name is Matt and I'm speaking to you on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to touch on some of the different types of geometries in Maya. If you come up to the tab here in the top left, it's going to say animation by default. If you click there and select polygons, that's going to take you to the modeling menus. Then if you come up and select create, below you'll see it says Nurbs, polygon, as well as subdivision primitives. These are your 3 main different types of geometries that you're going to be using in Maya. Nurbs. They're a type of geometry that's based on curves. Nurbs are good for creating organic type models and also for creating things such as cars that have a lot of curves to them. Below that, you'll see it says polygon and subdivision. Polygons and subdivisions are similar, but polygons are the most basic type of geometry. Polygon models are going to consist of faces. A good model is going to be made of faces that are either have 3 or 4 sides to them. Subdivisions, like I said, are pretty similar to polygons, but they have the added advantage that you can go in and further detail them using points that are kind of scaleable and you can add further details to your models. You can also convert between these 2 types of geometries easily."
